Bay of IslandsDay 2: Auckland - Bay of Islands
Travel northwards by sightseeing coach through lush farmland to New Zealand's northern most regions. On arrival in Paihia you visit the Waitangi Treaty House, where the historic Waitangi Treaty was signed in 1840 between the Maori chiefs and the British Empire.

Day 3: Bay of Islands

Today is a free day to explore this beautiful region. A visit to Cape Reinga and cruises of the bays that include 'swimming with the dolphins' options are also highlights of this region. Or you may simply choose to relax on one of the many beautiful beaches.



Day 4: Bay of Islands - Auckland
Hole in the Rock - Fullers cruise Depart aboard a Fullers' catamaran for your Cape Brett "Hole in the Rock" cruise. Journey out past the Cape Brett Lighthouse, before continuing on to Motukokako Island, and the famous Hole in the Rock. Cruise through the rock and on to the majestic Grand Cathedral Cave. On your return journey, a stop will be made at Otehei Bay, where you will have the chance to walk, swim, have something to eat, or take a Subsea Adventure (own expense).
Later this afternoon travel from the Bay of Islands back to Auckland.

TranzAlpine Train Travel up the rugged coastline of the West Coast to Greymouth where you join the famous Tranzalpine express train. Day 4: Rotorua to Wellington

Depart Rotorua by coach, you will shortly enter the Kaingaroa State Forest, among the largest man-made forests in the world. Nearing the southern end of the thermal belt pass the geothermal power project at Wairakei, where steam is harnessed to provide electricity from forty deep bores. From the top of the rise there is a magnificent view of Lake Taupo, New Zealand's largest lake. Follow the shoreline of New Zealand's largest lake and pass through Turangi, hub of the giant Tongariro hydroelectric Scheme. While travelling along the 'Desert Road you will be able to see the snow-capped peaks of Mounts Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngaruahoe. Descend to the extensive Manawatu Plains, and travel through Bulls and Levin. Pass through the popular seaside resort communities of Waikanae and Paekakariki. You will enter the Capital City of Wellington through its hilly northern suburbs.

Today time is at leisure to explore. We recommend a visit to Te Papa - New Zealand's national museum, or a ride on the Kelburn Cablecar - one of Wellington's earliest forms of transport. The city also boasts a vibrant nightlight and the bars, restaurants, and theatres are top class!

Day 6: Wellington - Picton - Kaikoura
TranzCoastal TrainTransfer to the ferry terminal and board the Interisland ferry. Leave the hustle and bustle of the big city and cruise across Cook Strait to the South Island. From the wharf at Picton board the Tranz Coastal train. Travel the short distance from Picton to Blenheim - a burgeoning grape growing area. Continue through grape country and over plains before heading south down the East Coast through salt mountains and river valleys. For over 100 kilometres the track runs along a thin ledge of land pinned between the Pacific Ocean and the rugged Kaikoura Ranges. The township of Kaikoura received its name from an early Maori explorer and translates roughly as kai (to eat) and koura (crayfish).

Day 7: Kaikoura to Christchurch
This morning enjoy a Whale Watching Tour following the resident sperm whales. You may also see resident dolphins, seals and albatross among many other marine animals and birds. Afterwards board the Tranz Coastal Train and head south past some of New Zealand's most spectacular coastal scenery before rolling out across the Canterbury Plains and arriving into Christchurch.

Travel through dense bush for many miles, with scattered milling and farming settlements, to the township of Franz Josef Glacier.

Day 11: Fox Glacier or Franz Josef - Queenstown
West CoastDepart Franz Josef and travel through a former sawmilling area to Fox Glacier. On through the forests of red and white pine to Bruce Bay, an old goldmining settlement. Pass through attractive bush scenery and see tranquil Lakes Paringa and Moeraki, the haunt of the fabulous white heron, to the township of Haast. Drive through the Haast Pass Highway viewing en route Mt Brewster Glacier. There is a long descent of 82 km to Wanaka, passing Lake Hawea Dam, water storage for the Roxburgh Hydro-Electric Station. From Wanaka, continue over the undulating countryside and skirt Lake Hayes to descend via the Lower Shotover Bridge to Queenstown.
