Tamaki Heritage Experiences Old Christchurch Town & Maori Pa: An exciting new concept for the interactive, educational traveler to New Zealand. Now, for the first time ever, the opportunity for visitors to discover for themselves the very essence of New Zealand’s culture and heritage. By simply following in the footsteps of our ancestors enables the intrepid traveler a pilgrimage of our living stories that unite people and land into a remarkable love affair. Old Christchurch Town and Maori Pa. A day and night experience of two cultures meeting and fusing into one, where visitors see the struggles of two cultures coming to terms with each other and paving a way forward for generations to live together.

.

Experience a slice of New Zealand with a reality difference. The only place in New Zealand where you play in a part of our history in over 20 acres of open-air theatre involving two villages and a cast of many.

.

Upon arrival at the Pa site we are greeted in the traditional manner as if we were long lost relations. Join the decedents of those who forged our history in blood, sweat and tears. Journey back in time to the early 1800's where the traditions of ancient Maori values clashed with those of early pioneering settlers and colonialism. This re-enactment is a first for New Zealand. From the lagoon crossing, pre European Maori Village, tribal conflict and warfare, colonial Village interaction, old era tram ride through time. A living history of how two cultures come to terms with one another. At the conclusion of the evening's experience join us in the dining hall to a combination banquet of traditional Hangi (food cooked on hot rocks in earthen oven) and early settlers feast.

Only 15 minutes from the centre of Christchurch is Lyttelton Harbour. Unwind in the sea air as we whisk you away to experience the extensive local marine life including the world's smallest and rarest marine dolphin - the Hector's or New Zealand Dolphins. As we depart you will see the historic township of Lyttelton, which hosts a busy working port with a fascinating history. The 'first four ships' arrived here direct from the Britain carrying the first Canterbury settlers in December 1850. The highlight of the cruise is undoubtedly the location of the Hector's Dolphin. The experience of the skipper and crew mean we can quickly locate the dolphins and spend time watching their antics. You'll also see a wide variety of coastal marine bird life. Lyttelton Harbour is an extinct volcanic crater and we will point out the longest lava flow on the peninsula, volcanic rocks and massive erosion caused by storms over millions of years. From more recent times you'll see old shipwrecks in the shallows as well as a 19th century fort which contains a number of disappearing guns. The cruise is fully narrated by your Captain and we're sure you'll be entertained and enlightened by his commentary. We look forward to welcoming you aboard!

We suggest you wear warm clothing. Even on warm days, there may be a cool sea breeze blowing. Sun screen and a hat is a must even if its cloudy. Bring your camera - there are incredible views.

You can catch our free shuttle from the Cathedral Square, Christchurch daily. The shuttle departs 35 minutes before each afternoon cruise.
